New Years 2018

New Years is right around the corner.  Many of us set big goals to improve our mind, body, and spirit but according to Forbes.com, only 8% of people actually achieve their resolutions.

Maybe you’re thinking, “Oh crap, that’s totally me!” or maybe you’re thinking, “There’s no way that’ll happen to me.”  What if I told you I had the answer to ensure you achieve your goal this year?  What if I told you I had the answer to ensure you achieve every goal you make from here on out?

This video has been floating around the internet for a little while now.  I first heard it on The School of Greatness podcast about a year ago and this message has stuck with me ever since.  The best way to understand the secret to achieving your goal is to watch the video below!  I’d encourage you to watch/listen to the whole thing, but if you don’t have the time to do so just listen to 3-5 minutes starting at 28:15.

To sum it up, we have a 5 second window to react to instincts we have.  If we wait longer than 5 seconds we may hesitate and talk ourselves out of doing whatever it is that we want to do.  When we hesitate, our minds raise a red flag and stop us from progressing.  Literally give yourself 5 seconds (count backwards if you need to) and make sure you react before or right at 5 seconds.

If you want to wake up early to go to the gym every day, give yourself 5 seconds from the time your alarm goes off to the time your toes hit the floor.  If you want to eat healthier, start cooking the second you think of a good option for that meal.  If you want to write in your journal once a week, keep your journal by your bedside and make a habit of picking up your pen the moment you walk into the room.

I’m speaking to myself just as much as I’m speaking to you when I say this: Accept the fact that you may never feel ready or courageous!  Just take it one push at a time.  STOP HESITATING.  Get up, get moving, and achieve your dreams.

  1. I love this, Aly. I’ll definitely be watching the entire video when I get off work tonight. I have an enormous problem with mulling things over when I think about them until I reach my final “decision” hours later. Plus, it’s not nearly as fun as tackling something head-on and immediately. What better resolution to have, honestly? I appreciate this post so much and I have no doubt it’ll help me this year. Here’s to 2018 haha!
